Jawed Nouri Afghan refugee in Bulgaria.
Interview made during the INFOMOBIL w2eu- tour July-August 2010 .
Germany-Austria-Hungary-Serbia-Bulgaria-Greece.
My name is Jawed Nouri, i am from Afghanistan citizen, and i am 24 years old
and now i am in Bulgaria, looking for asylum. Still now unsuccessful. I entered Bulgaria 2003 and still now i am here.
Why we left Afghanistan this i want to explain.
My father was General in the time of communism in Afghanistan. When the regime of communism came down the Muhahedin and other Islamic take the power and that
is why we have to leave Afghanistan. Because they shoot my father on the head, but he is living now.
They kill my uncle, my grandfather and thats why we have to leave, illegally to Pakistan. We lived in Peshawar, that time i was 6 years old. We lived illegally there in Pakistan.
To say the hole story and explain everything is impossible now, i want to shorten the explain.
I also started to work because all come very difficult for us in Pakistan, my father could not work the same work. In Pakistan they have also some discrimination of nation. I start to work i learn to make carpet, 8 years old .When i become 13 years i was specialist for carpet. One day this people understand who i am, somebody informed them and they take me as hostage and ask me where is my father.
They have Kalashnikovs, i shout and lost my one finger now, but that time they cut my three fingers. I start to run away from Pakistan also because those people know me and my father also decided i have to leave because it is danger for my Family also.
I went far from Pakistan.
I go to India, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Australia they have some islands. They put me in detention there. Not just me!
They have a lot of people. But i can not find my place.
And i decided to return back because i loose my time.
They deported me again to Pakistan. From Pakistan i started to walk between border Iran Pakistan. I entered Iran and also entered Turkey but its very dangerous way because i walked fifteen days on the mountains and this mountains is very dangerous because there is there mines and people die on mines, i entered, i go.
When i entered Turkey it was 2002 and i also decide to go Greece. We where 192 people in the back of the camion, near Salonika the police catch us.They understood that in side the camion was something, they checked and bring us out.
They leave a police dog run on me, i was 14 years old, that time.
The dog eat my legs.
Some Human Rights organization come,asked me: „do you like to stay in Greece?“
I said: „no! Because if it starts like this with a dog bitting me, what will come in the future?“
And after they deport us illegal to Turkey. Illegal.
They take us with car in the border. There is a small river, like 15 meter, water water, Evros yes ! and then by small ship, they returned us, 10 people each time , deported to Turkey.
From Turkey i start again to come to Bulgaria, but it is also dangerous in the border, Police beat many people. They do very bad with foreigner.
I came by train i came “tawan” they say in Bulgaria.
When i crossed the Turkish border some people help me, because alone i can not come and i don't know the way .When i crossed the Turkish border near to the Bulgarian border some people said come down.
When i come down, the train walked and they pushed me out of the train.
For two days i don't know where i am, and i don't understand.
And i get up!
I had broke my head and all.
After that i come to Sofia and i go to refugee camp give application for asylum .
How many languages do you speak?
With Bulgarian and English, 7 languages. 5 languages i speak good.
Perfect i don't have any problem with them: Urdu, Hindi, ,Punjabi, Pashtu, Dari, Farsi.
Why i have a lot of problems here?
Because i don t agree with the government of Bulgaria, with police of Bulgaria because i don't agree, my problem come .
Very fast i learned Bulgarian language. After this national security come and they want that i work with them and also i spoke about the corruption, the refugee if you want a status humanitarian or refugee you have to pay for them.
Between 2000-2500 Euro and they also asked me to pay them.
Most refugee camps are center of business. So the security want that i work with them like agent, i reject their application.
I said: „ i don't want.
I come from problem i don't want to be problem in Bulgaria.“
After one month also i work with the human rights ,2006 they had some international conference, i was there, about refugees racism about everything .
People from 48 countries. After that, i talked too much, i had a problem with a taxi driver, i called police. The police said : i am a danger for Bulgaria. In the conference you talked about your problems?
That time i had not much problem: i had no right to study, no right to status.
If you don't have status you don't have right to learn Bulgarian language.
Very bad system here. When i spoke too much, after come all and say i am danger for national security in Bulgaria and put me in prison.
They put me in Busmantsi prison but they have DRUZBHA prison ,they have 8 rooms, each room have 10-12 people and in the room no have anything.
Like very dirty . Very dirty bed, dark room , you can not see the sun, you are closed 24 hours there. And there what do you have right?
Just you go eat and this eat comes from jail and you don't have right from nine o clock at night, to nine o clock in the morning to use the toilet. You don't have right.
If you knock the door, police come beat you there. They beat one person from Lebanon: he died! because they beat him too much.
I see it with my eyes. i was witness. He was beaten after he goes to hospital, he dies.
I was there three months and fifteen days there.
At that time nobody talk about refugee about this center about this jail .
I have one journalist from England, she is my very best friend, and i call her and i too much request: please come, please do something because it is not good it is anti human place.
Even animal can not sleep here.
She go to many places government , immigrations office, she wanted some information but nobody give her any information. After that she come, she made an interview, she made a picture. When she published that in the newspaper call ECOSOFIA.
After that publication they start worrying in the immigration office of the government because this place very bad. They Busmantsi they start to do very bad with me, they start to see me with very bad eyes and i am like animal for them.
When i go Busmantsi , i know many popular Bulgarian people like journalists, writers , all media knows me in Bulgaria, and i start to request from them to help to finish this situation. But they didn't leave any people to visit me in Busmantsi and also they put me in isolation for one month, for 23 days, for 18 days, why i speak too much, why i look for my right .
That time i go crazy and i fired myself.
I want to protest to show them if they catch me if they don't want that we are heard .. I still can do inside something.
All people where afraid in Busmantsi when i fired myself. I go to a hospital, for one month and fifteen days. I make operation with my legs and also they do very bad with me in the hospital with handcuff, very bad , it is a long story.
After that they returned me back to Busmantsi and they put me to isolation .
Because i fired myself, they put me in isolation. This is very bad Bulgaria system is very bad system . I am not afraid of many people, the national security tell me, maybe they can kill me, they say you know who is talking with you will have problem.
I said: i know but i don't have problem with God. ! You are human, you are nothing.
After that they take me to other out of isolation. But i fight and go to court but here court no apply. They never explain to me , not even at court why i am in prison .
I asked at court: why am i in prison?
they said : that is secret!
In court one time i win the court but next day the decision of court changed.They said the judge made mistakes. I had this protocol. There is no justice its mafia. Don't believe in court of Bulgaria.
I lost every court. I don't have any chance to get out of Busmantsi. Even they don't deport me they don't release me. Just they keep me there.
And after i publish it in the news papers very big against national security.
The first person who talked about national security in Bulgaria in all this time .
In Bulgaria before 4 or 5 years you talk about national security and all people are afraid . No no speak with you. It is very bad thing, danger for national security.
But the first person after they made problem for the journalist, they make to five journalists who wrote about my case problem, they take them their work.
Even this journalist from England they make problem for her she left Bulgaria.
Now all world knows about Busmantsi.
I am very happy i don't say sorry that i came to Bulgaria, but i am happy i do something. I changed something in Bulgaria, this is good.
How did you get out of this prison?
Because i made many problem inside : protest, i broke, this is not aloud. You dont have right in court, even if you don't have any right publication all will know, but they don't take any action. I said OK, many time i broke all the door ..everything i make protest they come this police against terrorism, beat people, beat me.
I am not afraid i start. Thats why all journalists know me and they think if they keep me more there they will have more problem.
One day come the director and says: you have interview: you want to go outside ?
I said: thats why i fight for! but i don't want only me to go out, i want all the people to go out!
He said: no! now you go out!
I said : OK , why?
He said : we decide you go out. Believe me like this: go out!!! he said.
When i go out, other police catch me, they said: give me document !
I said my name is Jawed Nouri.
He said: ok, give me document .
I said : no i don't have document, nobody gave me document, but my name is Jawed Nouri. 24 hours after one police leave me, i go twenty meters , other police catch me,Put me also for 24 hours in prison .Then the police said: you come everyday and sign. I said: why i sign?
Three years i am in jail, now i hate the police and every morning i should see police? I said: never! if you put me hundred years, i will not come to sign.
After they said: ok, you go to refugee camp …...give application to give interview.
I go there, now they give me temporary for three, three months.
You know its crazy:
I have order to be in detention.
I have order to get deported, they have to deport me.
I don't have right to enter Bulgaria for 10 years.
I have also other order: i don't have right to leave Bulgaria.
It is very interesting.
Did you find solidarity with other prisoners? did they support your actions?
Of course. Many people are afraid. With some people we make together thats why i have too much power, before i was one and inside hundred people, just i fight, when i fight they put me in isolation
All people are afraid from isolation, but for me isolation Busmantsi or other building is the same, you are in jail, here also jail. But the people are afraid .One day i explained them. That when we are 10- 20 people or when they come we are 100 people protesting inside. We fight too much even we have very serious problem with police. One guy inside Busmantsi start beating police because at night 2 o clock they come and if they don't like somebody they said: come ! after they beat him, take him out from room and beat him. They beat him too much one Tchechenian person after he was angry too much and he start to beat 8 policemen. He was very strong, like me i don t speak about it that i am strong, i am nothing.
That why all know about Bulgaria about refugees, about Busmantsi and this is why i gave this .I support my lawyer Helsinki committee.
I had court the appeal against national security, they said ok after one month you have decision and they take me to Busmantsi. After one month i call my lawyer from Helsinki committee, nine months he said you don't have decision, i decide to call to court to ask the judge why . I called and he said: before 9 months you had your decision .
I called my lawyer he said no. I said why you lie i speak now with court. If i would have known before 9 months i could have appeal against Bulgaria in Strasbourg
For Strasbourg you have 6 months right to appeal. If you lost the 6 months you lost the right.
You see the lawyer was a combination with the immigration. Bulgaria has no court and justice they only have police, the police can decide for your life.
What do you wish now???
I have good wishes now . I want to became lawyer. Before i liked to became an architect. But now i changed my profession. I said i will learn international economy and right. One day i want to support those people who don't have supporters. One day i want to become lawyer and to fight for every human right.
That my very wishes.
I want to close this Busmantsi also. All detention centers not only in Bulgaria , everywhere.
And i am really really thankful for this people in Bulgaria who go against this Busmantsi. This was good for me so thanks to all anarchists.
In Afghanistan we have anarchism, all life is anarchism, but there with other mentality. They are different. Here are good anarchists.
When the first demonstration took place where you inside the detention?
No! i was outside! I went there i was in this two demonstrations.

I am very happy when people come from other places and are interested. if you are practical, you do things , this is great for us, its too much. And one day i want also to do something in Bulgaria there are very good people they support me too much they had because of me, many problems
